Schedule of Events

 

“Out of This World” Jeopardy 

Monday April, 3rd. @ 6:00 PM

Description: This event will take place in the SUB Activities Room 3200.

  • 6 pre-determined pairings will compete in a “Jeopardy” style group competition
  • Variety of “space” themed categories ranging from pop culture to space history/facts.

Requirements:

  • Each team entered must have at least 2 representatives from each organization in the group. Teams cannot have more than 8 people total.

Game:

  • Inspired by Jeopardy with a variety of questions and categories.

Point Breakdown:

  • 1st Place: 60 points
  • 2nd Place: 45 points
  • 3rd Place: 30 points

*Placing will be based on the highest score among the group’s teams. A group is only capable of receiving one place.

Space Race

(Tuesday April 4th 8:00 AM – 3:00 PM)

Description: Scavenger Hunt

This year the scavenger hunt will take place all day from the times listed above. Clues will be distributed on Twitter only.  At each location, there will be markers to grab indicating your placement, allowing you to move on to the next round. In a “musical chairs” style, there will not be enough markers at each location for every team. Obtaining a marker allows your team to compete in the next round, which will start when the next clue to be tweeted out. Clues will be on campus only.  Each organization will compete independently for the clues (do not use lip sync teams nor team pairing for the day).  

 

Point Breakdown:

  • 1st place: 30 points
  • 2nd place: 20 points
  • 3rd place: 10 points

“I Went Greek Because…”

(Tuesday April, 4th. @ 12:00 PM)

Description: This event will take place on the Mall from 12:00 pm until the conclusion of the Time Capsule event (see below). Chalkboards will be placed around the Mall. There will be spots on these boards for members of Greek Life to write the reasons that they joined their organization in chalk. These boards will be kept by the Greek Life office.

  • Members of Greek Week Committee will be stationed there throughout the day to prevent inappropriate comments.
  • If members of an organization are found being inappropriate, they are subject to point deductions, up to the discretion of the Greek Week Committee advisor.
  • Although no points are awarded for this event, participation is highly encouraged.

 

Time Capsule

(Tuesday April, 4th. @ 3:00 PM)

Description: This event will take place on the Mall and each organization will bring one treasured item that represents their chapter’s values/pillars/traditions. A rain site will be announced at a later date. The item must be size of your fist (ex. trinket, souvenir etc.). You are allowed to write a note to go along with your item. The time capsule will be opened in 15 years from the date it is sealed.

Point Breakdown:

  • Each team will be awarded 15 points for contributing an item.

 

Planetarium Night

(Tuesday April, 4th. Showings Starting @ 4:00 PM)

Description: Organizations will be assigned a time between 4:00 pm and 9:00 pm to attend a 30 minute showing of From Earth to The Universe. Due to limited space, if more than 20% of your organization shows up, we reserve the right to turn you away at the door. Showing times will be assigned at a later date.

Point Breakdown:

  • 20% of organization: 30 points
  • 15% of organization: 20 points
  • 10% of organization: 10 points

 

The Dog Show

(Wednesday, April 5 @ 12:30 PM)

Description: Do you like Dogs? Does your organization have a loveable pooch who can’t get enough of the spotlight? If you answered yes to any of the above questions, come to the Quad on Wednesday, April 5th at 12:30pm for Truman’s first ever Dog Show! Each philanthropy team will submit a dog to be judged in several unique categories. Get your brushes out and get ready to groom your dog to victory!  

**This event will take place on the Quad – coinciding with dog/cat toy building and random acts of kindness.**

  • 6 pre-determined pairings will compete in a Dog Show (same as the penny bucket teams).

Requirements:

  •     Each team entered must have at least one representative from each organization in the group. Teams can have as much help as you would like.
  • Each team needs to provide a dog.  If one cannot be provided within the teams, Greek Week Committee will help you find a dog.

Point Breakdown:

  •   1st Place: 60 points
  •   2nd Place: 45 points
  •   3rd Place: 30 points

*Placing will be based on the highest score among the group’s teams. A group is only capable of receiving one place.  The other dogs will be entered for fun and for a light, fun competition only.  If an extra dog is the overall winner it will go down the line for the registered dogs on which team gets points.

 

Dog/Cat Toy Making and Well Wishes for Kenya

(Wednesday, April 5 @ 10:30AM – 2:30 PM)

Event Information: Quad (Rain Site: SUB Activities Room)

Rules: Assemble dog/cat toys and “Well Wishes for Kenya” tables

Description:

  • Field of Dreams is in need of volunteers to assist in the creation of dog and cat toys. Taking place at the same time of the Dog Show, this event will walk members through the steps in order to make engaging toys for animals in-need!
  • Organizations need 60% attendance in order to secure maximum points.  Every organization will check in with a member of Greek Week Committee to ensure that these numbers are met.  Organizations will come to the event location to enjoy time with one another while participating in philanthropy. They will assemble the dog/cat toys provided by Greek Week Committee and Field of Dreams.
  • Each philanthropy group will be provided a table for their Well Wishes for Kenya during the event (same philanthropy group as your penny bucket/dog show groups). There is a lot of room for creativity with what your team chooses to do for the Kenya tables
  • Kenya Table Guidelines:
    • For Example: Create a table with paper/markers for bypassers to make greeting cards, provide trail mix for bypassers to make quickly for Kenya, bracelet making, etc.
    • Please choose an activity that is inexpensive
    • Activity must be sent in for approval by Wednesday, March 22th at 12 p.m to ncw3642@truman.edu – but remember, this is not a mandatory event BUT highly suggestedl and if you need help coming up with a tabling event, contact the Philanthropy Chairs who will gladly help you

Point Breakdown:

  •     60% organization participation: 30 points
  •     40% organization participation: 20 points
  •     20% organization participation: 10 points
  •     Hosting a “Well Wishes for Kenya” Table: 10 points

 

Lip Sync Audience Participation

(Dress Rehearsal Wednesday, April 5th @ 7:00pm)

Details:

  • Due to the limited amount of seating in OPPH, team members who are not able to purchase a ticket for Thursday nights’ performance but still want to watch may be able to purchase a ticket to watch dress rehearsal.

(Final Performance Thursday, April 6th @ 7:00pm)

Details:

    • Please refer to the Lip Sync packet for all information for participants.
    • Audience members will not be allowed to bring any food or drink into the auditorium. All participants and audience members must abide by University and Greek Week rules. Failure to do so could result in deductions, disqualification and/or loss of participation for future activities.

 

  • Each member will choose one member to participate in a one minute Lip Sync Battle which will take place at the final performance on Thursday  following the Lip Sync performances.

 

  • Participants in the Lip Sync Battle will be challenged to lip sync and dance to a song chosen at random. 10 points will be awarded to each lip sync team who choose to participate. This participant cannot already be participating in your regular Lip Sync performance.
  • A list of the songs that will be selected at random on the night of the performance will be provided beforehand in order to allow the participant to prepare beforehand if they would like.

Point Breakdown:

Ticket Sales:

  • Each organization will have a designated number of tickets distributed based upon size. Please keep in mind that ticket sales DO NOT determine point awards. ATTENDANCE is mandatory in order to receive full point value. This means that even if your organization buys the full amount of tickets, you will not receive points unless all seats designated to your organization are full.

Dress Rehearsal

  • 20% of organization: 30 points
  • 15% of organization: 20 points
  • 10% of organization: 10 points

Final Performance

  • 40% of organization: 60 points
  • 30% of organization: 45 points
  • 20% of organization: 30 points

Lip Sync Battle Participation: 10 points
